A MOTHER'S TEARS! “Adam lay with his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, “With the help of the Lord I have brought forth a man. Later she gave birth to his brother Abel.” Genesis 4:1-2 Eve, was a woman who had already committed a sin against God. A woman who had refused to obey God was thrown out of the Garden of Eden. This woman was already dealing with the heartache of her disobedience to God. God who loving formed her and breathed life into her being, Eve turned against him. She along with her husband; Adam, had caused curses not only for themselves but for generations to come, Thrown out of the Garden of Eden, Eve was now with child. Joy had finally come to this woman who had been disobedient. She was to give life not only to one child but to two, Cain and Abel. Can’t you see her smiling up at her husband from her bed thinking that perhaps God has forgiven their sins. With these lives growing inside of her; she probably thought, a new beginning. Maybe God had reversed the curses he had placed upon her, her husband and the generations to come. As time went on and these sons became older, Abel kept the flocks, and Cain worked the soil. So I am sure to Eve life was good. All things seemed to be going the way she had wanted. She had her husband and her sons, what more could a woman ask? But it was not over for Eve, for during a time sacrifices were brought to God to thank him for allowing the crops to grow and the growth and multiplication of the flocks. As we all know, God requires our first fruits, he requires our best. To God Abel brought his best, his first fruits from his flock, and God looked upon it with favor. Cain, however did not bring his best, and was not looked upon with favor from God. This brought a great rage in Cain, and God saw it, and spoke to Cain concerning his rage. God let him know that day that what he felt could be overcome, that he could master the rage within him. However, Cain had no desire to master his rage in fact he plotted to kill his brother, and kill him he did. What sorrow Eve must have felt when she found out that one of her sons had killed the other. Tears probably begin to flow from her eyes as she thought on her son Abel. Why did he have to die, and what a senseless death committed by his own brother. I am sure Eve’s tears were also for her son Cain, as she wrestled with the thoughts that he had committed a great and grievous sin by killing his own brother. What is a mother to do? How can she not love the one that is living, and still grieve for the one that is dead? A mother’s tears again drops upon the land, a mother’s tears shed for the death of her son, a mother’s tears shed for her living son. With tears flowing down her face, I can only visualize her mournful spirit torn between her sons. Why, why I am sure she asked herself over and over again, why had this pointless death occurred, and why had one brother killed the other. A mother somewhere this day is asking the same question that Eve asked many years ago. Why this pointless death, why did one brother kill the other? As a mother’s tears had fallen that day, tears will again fall from a mother’s eyes for the loss of her children. Mother’s will continue to grieve for the senseless deaths of their children, the loss of life that God have grown inside of them. What is a mother to do? Prayer: Father, In the Name of Jesus Christ, I pray that you cover my children in the Blood of Jesus Christ. Build a wedge of protection and a wall of fire around them that evil cannot penetrate. Keep them safe in their going in and their coming out. Order their footsteps and lead and guide them into all truths. Bless them and keep them from all hurt, harm and danger. Amen. |
