Jesus, A Son Not Forgotten!

“The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel—which means, “God with us.” Matthew 1:23

While going through the Easter Season and celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, my mind begins to focus on Mary, Jesus’ mother. I cannot imagine the pain and grief she must have felt that day as she stood in the court area watching her son being brutally tortured, spit upon, dragged through the streets, and enduring all kinds of pain. These people whom he loved so much, the people that he had healed, raised from the dead, cast out evil spirits, and prayed to God concerning their problems were the very ones that were asking for his life. With every nail that hammered into his hands and feet, I am sure tears were streaming down Mary's face.

Why had it come to this? I am sure as she watched these events she could only wonder, why did it come to this?

As a mother, I can only envision what must have been going through her mind on that hot and dusty day. A mother standing helplessly as her son was going to his death. While standing with tears in her eyes and not able to help him in any way can you too understand the heartache Mary must have felt. What a harsh and cruel way for a mother to see the end of her child’s life.

A mother’s tears were shed upon the land that day, this time in history, a mother’s tears for her son. Broke down and bent over from the pain of grief, can you see and feel this mother’s innermost pain? Can you sense her distress? She was standing witnessing the cruel and inhumane treatment of her son. A nation had turned against her loved one, a nation that Jesus came to save, had decided upon his death.

Mary, a hurting mother could not see or understand the reasoning for her son’s death that day. Although thousands of years later; we can now say that this was preordained by God, and that it had to happened, however, we still the feel grief for this mother.

As it was then, it is now, a mother’s tears being shed for the loss of her child. Why have we not learned anything from this grieving mother? Why can’t we see that mothers are still crying and shedding tears for the loss of their children? How senseless is all of this, how pointless. Many of the greats that God have given us since the death of Jesus Christ have met horrible and senseless deaths. Our sons and daughters that we loved and prayed would be successful in ways that we never were have also left this earth and we cannot see any sense in their deaths. Parents are asking the question, why did God allow this? Why has my child been taken? Why did God not stop this horrifying act?

Death to our young to us seems meaningless, and something we will never be able to understand. I am sure that as Mary grieved for her son; I am convinced that there Is a mother grieving as I write for her child, and their senseless death as well. Somewhere tears are being shed, grief is overwhelming, and understanding seems to elude all of us. Yes, we continue to see mother’s shedding tears and grieving for their loved ones as predators, murderers, war, terrorism, and the like continue to murder our children, and we still have no answers.

A man God sent to save us all and out of our ignorance we killed him. We could not even accept the gift of life that was being offered to us without destroying it. We continue to destroy the things we do not understand; we continue to tear down with our mouths our young, our elderly, people all around us, and when that does not work, we annihilate. Mothers across this land continue to cry for their loved ones as predators continue to stalk and murder our children; as wars continue to fume havoc around the world and children are killed and harmed, and as blood continues to flow throughout our streets from our own children, we still are asking why?

Jesus Christ gone, but never forgotten.
