The New You for 2010!

Just because you donated your leisure suits to the Smithsonian a decade ago doesn't mean you're ready to take that next step in the evolutionary process to become a 21st century metro male.

First, you have to embrace your metro male, your metrosexual side, which says: it's OK to dress fashionably, be well groomed and have a refined sense of taste and style. Honestly guys, it's not a bad thing to treat yourself to an occasional facial, enjoy a manicure and take a hacksaw to those toenails, oops, we mean, get a pedicure. If you're worried that someone might think you less of a man, get over it! It's 2010. Let's emerge from the cave and into the light, shall we.

Here are 6 sure-fire tips to become a 2010 charter member of the 'new new boys club':

1. Upgrade your wardrobe. T-shirts, baggie pants and unlaced tennis shoes don't make a good first impression on the ladies or the men. Start with the basics: for dress, a nice navy or grey suit, black shoes and a belt are essential. Beyond that, invest in a couple white shirts and some solid ties. For casual wear, khakis and a pair of designer jeans (and not the type of jeans that look like they came from the set of ''Swamp Thing: The Return.'').

2. Have your hair cut professionally. A professional stylist can do wonders for your look, and once established, you won't have to work as hard to keep it looking good. Also, a stylist can help with those pesky receding hairlines, without resorting to the mother-of-all-tackiness, the comb-over.

3. Take care of your skin. Beauty tips and products are not just for women anymore. Men should be are equally conscious of how to protect and take care of their skin. Skin experts recommend scrubbing your skin daily and apply a good moisturizer with the least amount of additives you can find. And after shaving, you need to moisturize with a product that has absolutely no alcohol in it. Avoid heavy fragrant after-shave products too, as they can irritate the skin - as well as a potential date.

4. Do get a manicure and a pedicure. First of all, guys, this is a little secret our significant others have been keeping from us for years: these procedures feel really good! Certainly, a manicure can pay benefits on the job. If your nails and hands look good, it's going to project a more professional appearance. Feel uncomfortable doing this alone? Make it a date! Your wife or girlfriend will love you for it.

5. Try new things. If you haven't been to the theater since you were in Annie Get Your Gun in high school, it's time to go back. Don't know the difference between a merlot and a blended red? Try them both. Want to cultivate your culinary side. Jump inthe food tastes fine!

6. Eat healthy and stay in shape. This advice has nothing to do with being a metro male, but everything to do with setting a course for life. By watching your diet, getting regular exercise and keeping your indulgences in moderation, these other things will fall into place.
